Asia is the powerhouse of global tourism, accounting for 25% of total arrivals in 2017, and its influence continues to expand. So, after another hectic year, we’re counting the air miles. From Check-in Asia’s bases in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, we travelled region-wide to deliver content, marketing and intelligence projects. And, for the first time in 2017, our client map features Turkey, Pakistan, Philippines and Sri Lanka.
Here’s a brief summary of where we’ve ventured, and what we created…
Hot in Hospitality. From Istanbul to Tokyo and Shenyang to Bali, we crafted digital content, media communications, brand stories, presentations and speeches and social media messaging for leading hospitality brands, including The Peninsula Hotels, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, Kempinski Hotels, Manadarin Oriental Hotels, Hyatt Regency, Marco Polo Hotels and Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts.
Inspired Insights. Check-in Asia’s travel analysts produced reports on Chinese Travel Consumers and Pakistan’s tourism economy, and contributed to the Polarisation of the Asian Traveller White Paper. We attended ITB Asia in Singapore and the UNWTO Global Summit on Urban Tourism in Kuala Lumpur, and headed to the UK to research Chinese Golden Week tourism trends. In December, we were interviewed by CNN Business Traveller about the global impact of Chinese tourism.
Sidecar Stories. In September, we jumped on a motorcycle sidecar for a multimedia content project with Insiders Experience and Shanghai lifestyle magazine City Weekend. For four weeks, we shared tour insights from Shanghai’s off-the-map locations and unveiled little-known nuggets of the city’s history, accompanied by a chance for readers to win their own bespoke tour.
Dynamic Destinations. Asian destination content is a Check-in Asia speciality, and our travels to Hong Kong, Hangzhou, Beijing, Penang, Bali, Hainan Island and Hanoi fashioned features for DestinAsian, SilverKris, Centurion, Voyeur and 9Travel. A prized backstage pass enabled us to report behind the scenes at the Victoria’s Secret show in Shanghai for Vogue Australia.
Ratings & Reviews. Our experienced hotel reviewers checked out several hot new hotels, including Capella Shanghai, The St. Regis Shanghai Jingan, Naked Castle Moganshan and W Shanghai – The Bund for the 2017 DestinAsian Luxe List, and St Regis Kuala Lumpur for Forbes Travel Guide.
Asian Tourism Trends. To round out 2017, our 10 Key Trends in Asian Travel & Tourism report examines 10 white-hot themes for the year ahead, ranging from diversification in Chinese and Indian outbound travel and domestic tourism in South East Asia to the growing appeal of sporting adventure and augmented reality, and the looming shadow of overtourism.
