Content Curation by Check-in Asia

“What is it that you actually do?” is a question we are often asked. And, it’s a good one. Check-in Asia Hotels & Travel focuses exclusively on the travel and tourism industry, but our specialist services  are pretty diverse, ranging from campaign planning and strategic marketing support to PR and speech writing, video scripting and bespoke reports and publications – and a great deal else, besides!

So, in the first of a series of themed posts, we begin with Content Curation – which is at the heart of everything we do. Our well-travelled team resides across Asia, and we are frequently engaged by leading travel and lifestyle magazines (Conde Nast Traveller, DestinAsian, Travel + Leisure, Elite Traveler), guidebook publishers (Insight, Wallpaper*, DK, National Geographic), online portals and apps (NineMSN Elsewhere, Seasonal Cities), national tourism boards (JNTO, Tourism Philippines) and hotel and lifestyle brands (too many to mention!) to craft incisive, on-trend content that brings to life the joys of travelling in Asia.

Here are our Top 5 recent content curation projects:

Checking Out Chengdu

Check-in Asia Director Amy Fabris-Shi is regularly approached by media, trend forecasters and hospitality teams to share her stylish recommendations and industry insights from China and Asia. In a recent interview with that’s Shanghai magazine, she shared some of her favourite memories from a 2015 reporting trip to Chengdu, a trending China destination in the global travel media.

Hong Kong Hotspots

Mabuhay, the inflight magazine of Philippine Airlines, was seeking a lifestyle story that provided a fresh perspective of a well-covered destination. Check-in Asia was charged with the task of curating a stylish feature combing shopping, dining, lounging and pop-up markets in the gentrifying SoHo neighbourhood that would appeal to fashion-forward global travellers.

Conde Nast Traveller Streets of Asia

Asia’s Savvy Street Style

For the fourth consecutive year, Condé Nast Traveller contracted Check-in Asia to curate its annual 16-page, 14-country Asia supplement. This year’s special section, themed Streets of Asia, was published in the May 2016 edition of the leading travel and lifestyle magazine. It follows our previous themed special sections, entitled: Colours of Asia (2015), Asia: Land & Water (2014) and Asia: Ancient & Modern (2013).

Insider Shanghai Insights

Four years after creating the content for the inaugural Shanghai Select guide, London-based Insight Guides again turned to Check-in Asia to manage an update and reformat of the guide to more than 100 unique insider experiences, to be published as Explore Guide Shanghai in 2016. Not only was Insight confident that Check-in Asia could curate the most informed and precision-targeted destination content, but our on-the-spot experience of Shanghai and China’s evolving cultural landscape and trends over 14 years added the deeper contextual element they were seeking.

Killer Cuisines in KL

Malaysia’s capital is a city close to our hearts, and when Australia’s NineMSN was checking out content options for its new Elsewhere online travel portal, Check-in Asia was the first port of call. From an eclectic dining scene that zig-zags from inspired molecular gastronomy to classic French dishes inspired by equatorial ingredients, and from bars in historic hotels to a jungle rope-walk and elevated sipping spots, KL’s hottest lifestyle trends are always on-radar.
