A look at some of the hotel projects the Check-in Asia Shanghai office has been working on recently….
We jumped on a bullet train and headed north to one of our favourite Chinese cities – Tianjin. Check-in Asia is regularly called on by the world’s leading hospitality brands to collaborate on their newly-opening or re-branding projects in China, and this time we were commissioned by Shangri-La Tianjin to assess the established hotel’s website, brand brochures and other related content.
Director Amy Fabris-Shi worked onsite with the new management team to reinvigorate the way the hotel attracts and connects with its target markets. We also researched unique Tianjin stories, helping guests access insider experiences around the hotel neighbourhood and enhancing the appeal of the destination.
Check-in Asia rewrote parts of the hotel website and crafted unique destination stories. We’re also working with the hotel marketing team on promotions, newsletters and press releases on an ongoing basis. Our Check-in Partner Photographer shot new key images for the hotel that reflected its fresh invigoration.
We toured The Bvlgari Hotel Shanghai with its leading architect from Milan. Bvlgari’s sixth international ‘hotel gem’ opens this June and it’s looking spectacular!
Our Director Amy Fabris-Shi was commissioned by the Bulgari Hotels & Resorts management team in Rome to interview the lead architect of renowned Italian architectural firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel and prepare The Bulgari Hotel Shanghai’s full opening press materials in order to successfully communicate Bvlgari’s distinctive style and values while adding vital local context and understanding of China and greater Asia-Pacific markets.
Shanghai is spoiled for stunning new hotel openings this year! We also visited Amanyangyun Shanghai. The cover story of the April/May 2018 issue of travel magazine DestinAsian featured the dramatic backstory of Aman’s latest resort, Amanyangyun Shanghai. The six-page feature, written by Amy Fabris-Shi with photography by Todd Anthony Tyler, reveals how a 29-year-old Chinese entrepreneur managed to save a trove of centuries-old homes and a millenary camphor forest from destruction in the Jiangxi countryside and transport them 700 kilometres to the outskirts of Shanghai.
On the outskirts of Shanghai in historic Jiading near the Shanghai F1 Circuit, we were intrigued to discover a burgeoning new district complete with a Poly Theatre designed by Tadao Ando! Right next door to the stunning theatre, in the district’s tallest tower that is also designed by Tadao Ando, is the impressive Hyatt Regency Shanghai Jiading – one of our newest Check-in Asia clients and set to open later this year.

We learned a great deal about Zhenjiang, a 3,000-year-old city at the juncture of the Yangtze River and Grand Canal that is the home of Wu Culture – and Zhenjiang black vinegar! Another Check-in Asia international hotel client is opening soon atop the city’s loftiest landmark tower and offering a whole new perspective on this ancient city.
Finally out west in Xi’an, we helped the magnificent Grand Hyatt Xi’an craft their press materials, hotel stories and venue descriptions. Truly bringing the extraordinary to the Grand Hyatt experience, this property blends exotic Silk Road inspiration with world-class style and cutting-edge technology – think: a yurt-shaped Grand Ballroom entirely encircled by curving LED screens and topped with a Swarovski crystal chandelier.
Stay tuned for updates on our non-hotel related projects, too…
